Elena Lopez, postdoctoral researcher in the StretchBio project, presented last week the first results of the project at the MRS (Materials Research Society) in Boston, Massachusetts. The presentation was part of the Symposium EQ05-Plasmonics, Nanophotonics and Metaphotonics — Design, Materials and Applications.
The abstract presented by the team of the University of Barcelona (UB-IN2UB) in collaboration with the (DTU) has focused on the results of the simulation and nanofabrication of 2D PC based on silicon nanopillars on silicon -on-insulator (SOI) substrates.
The potential application of these structures will be the development of the mechanical biosensor of the StretchBio project, that will use the change its readout when an epithelium in process of growth or regeneration will exert lateral forces on specific pillars placed in or enclosing the cavities previously mentioned.
